Marlin Mauling

This 24"x 36" original oil painting was one that I have just decided to offer. The larger color version of 'Sailfish Assault', was started at the same time as it's black & white cousin. Capturing the 'battle in the ditch' between two large swells is much more dynamic when expressed in color. A school of Dorado in open water is no match for a baitball. But, a Marlin cutting through a rough white capped swell, will light up a school of Dorado quite easily. Also known as Mahi-Mahi, the smaller dorado change color over a wide spectrum, and I endeavored to capture a few of their primary hues in this painting. Blurring the line between water & sky, the thick impasto style of paint application helps stress the struggle between predator & prey.

As a personal favorite of mine, I will list this piece for 1 renewal cycle and reevaluate whether I'll continue to list it, or return it to my private collection.
