In a passing conversation at my local art supplies shop, I learned about Etsy just last year. For years I'd been exhibiting at local art, fishing, and sports expositions, and although I experienced some success and popularity, the exposure was strictly local. After a bit of research, I was very excited to open my Etsy shop, and I've been very pleased with the Global exposure and excellent support.
For most of my life, I've been an athlete and worked in various construction and heavy equipment fields. But, all the while, drawing, painting and sculpting as a way to relax, escape and express my imagination. It wasn't until my mid 30's that a friend introduced me as 'her friend, the artist', that I began to look at myself in a different light.
Artist: My earliest 'artistic' memory is one from the age of 6 years old. I got in a bit of trouble for melting crayons on an old upright radiant heater in my room; because I couldn't get the 'colors to blend right'. Since then, I've always been able to draw, paint or sculpt whatever I'd like, and through the years had various requests to do so, but I'd always thought everyone could do the same; because it came so easy to me. After some soul searching, I realized that I had a gift and was indeed, an Artist.
My Shop: My shop is my lap. It seems odd, but unless my canvas is massive, I rarely work at my easel. I'm accustomed to drawing in my sketchbooks, wherever I happen to be when inspiration strikes, often times in airplanes, waiting rooms or lobbies. I adapted this 'style' to my paintings by attaching them to thin boards, so I could place them on my lap, and rotate the canvas; often painting 'upside down'. This technique allows me to work on multiple pieces at the same time, and my loving wife is Very supportive by tolerating a house full of paintings in various stages 'of construction'. In the shop photo gallery, you'll see a corner of her Cake shop, "Guy's Cake Supply", where I can often find the solitude to create.
I'll continue adding works as they're completed. I've priced my pieces at about half of what the standard 'gallery pricing' would be, to encourage you to purchase and collect these early original works. If all goes well, I'll be able to offer giclee' prints in a year or two. I hope you enjoy HuntGalleries, and I welcome questions, comments, and critical exchanges.
Thank You,
Tony
