Bridging the Gap

This original drawing has an 11"x14 15/16" (29x 37.5cm) finished size, on the unmatted drawing. The matting is 16"x 20" (40.5x 50.5cm) with an opening for an 11"x 14" (35.5x 37.5cm) piece, so a small portion is covered, when matted. The 4H to 6B pencil work is sealed with Grumbacher matte final fixative, to seal the graphite from smudging.

'Bridging the Gap' was inspired after a business trip to Abu Dhabi. While I on my way home, I was thinking about all of the different countries, cultures, and communities that I've been blessed to experience in my life. What seem to be such wide disparities between people, are really great opportunities to learn. Given a chance to experience each other, people are basically really the same, in so many ways. Communication is the road to success, and sharing is how we can bridge any gap. No matter how deep the divide, how wide the chasm, or what river of history runs through it; I've found that through working together and reaching across that gap makes us all better.

This is my visual reminder to 'be the bridge', to always strive to learn, share, and grow.
